Could be much better, January 14, 2012 By This review is from: NEX Mount Adaptor with Translucent Mirror Technology (Electronics) I am both pleased and disappointed with the LA-EA2 adapter.
Pleased because it adds autofocus and full exposure control from your NEX body.
Disappointed because, well there are many reasons:
Autofocus is phase-detection based which required Sony to transplant it's translucent mirror technology from the SLT range of cameras. This means better autofocus, but it also means less light (1/3EV) hitting the sensor. Not the end of the world, but if you factor this in with the loss of image stabilization (NEX uses in-lens stabilization but Alpha uses in-body stabilization and so consequently using an Alpha lens on a NEX body means having NO stabilization) and you will likely find yourself pushing ISO up to compensate and shooting at faster apertures.
Another problem is that some of NEX's key features goes missing once the LA-EA2 is attached. For example, "focus peaking" can only be used when the lens/camera is switched to full manual focus mode and will not... Read more

Expand your lens options; expand your horizons, January 20, 2012 This review is from: NEX Mount Adaptor with Translucent Mirror Technology (Electronics) I have the Sony NEX-5N and this is really my first DSLR-like camera I've ever owned. With that said, when I started to really dive into the interest of photography, I was quite disappointed in the E-mount lens selection. I wanted lenses to have a high aperture and even though some of the E-mount lenses provided this, it just really wasn't enough - especially with the photography that I wanted to do. After getting the LA-EA2, my selection of lenses expanded greatly - not just to the Sony A-Mount lenses but dipping into the classic Minolta Maxxum A-Mount lenses as well. My current A-Mount lens collection is as follows (all fully compatible with my LA-EA2):
1. Sony 50mm f/1.4
2. Minolta 85mm "G" f/1.4 (OH. EM. GEE. This is the FIRST lens you should get. Trust me.)
3. Minolta 135mm f/2.8
4. Minolta APO HS 80-200mm f/2.8 (I just got this and wow. WOW.)

After about 300 shots with the thing, I have to say I really love it. I have tried mine with a SAM focus lens and an old Minolta screw focus lens, both were very fast, quick, and accurate with the auto focus.
The light loss due to the translucent mirror is there, but not crippling to use in low light.
Overall I would definitely recommend this is you have a-mount lenses or would like to try some old Minolta lenses(which can be purchased for pretty cheap).
