This review is from: RedStar Consumer Series DSLR Follow Focus Bundle w/ RS Mount, RS Speed Lever, Lens Gear, & Pro II Lens Gear (Electronics) Never used a follow focus before so I took a dive with this inexpensive unit. I decided on this instead of the D|Focus version which also has an adjustable DSLR mounting plate (sold separately and costs extra). I like that I did not need rails or a cage to mount the unit. I own a Canon 7D and so far its not bad. Due to the smaller lens gear circumference it works much better with a battery grip attached to the camera. Without the battery grip attached, turning the gear seemed slightly difficult(not a deal breaker though) with the gear turning directly from the side of the lens. With the battery grip attached, the gear turns from below the lens and it provided a much smoother and easier racking (try focusing manually with your hand. Much more natural and easier holding the lens from below then from the side It comes with two flexible lens gears. Best part is I get an inexpensive follow focus that will work with other brand rails and gears if I decide to. This review is from: RedStar Consumer Series DSLR Follow Focus Bundle w/ RS Mount, RS Speed Lever, Lens Gear, & Pro II Lens Gear (Electronics) Product looks good and solid construction - haven't had a change to use it yet because when the shipped it they forgot to send me the RS-Mount Bracket so I can attach it to my camera "without the use of rails, rods, or cage!" - the number one reason why I purchased this Follow Focus from all the rest. The parts received were not in box, but were each in their own bubble wrap, sent in a flexible bag. Also in the bag I did not see any directions provided - even though it looks easy enough attach - but still some instructions or tips on how to use or attach the follow focus should be provided so young, inexperienced, independent video/film makers have a basic idea of how it is suppose to attach. If they send me the RS-Mount Bracket I'll give another review of how the product works. But its a pain to have to ask for parts that are suppose to come with your purchase, especially camera related products.
