4.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect Messenger Style Camera Bag, January 7, 2011

I have different bags for different needs. I like the well-padded stuffy bags for storage or going from points A to B. For working out of, going to a hockey game, or party, I prefer something small and minimalist such as a holster bag. And I have bags for these purposes.

However, a need I was looking to fill was a bag that could hold my life for 12+ hours during a busy work and school day. I work and go to school at Arizona State University. It's a big campus and I do a lot of walking. My wish was for a bag that could do and hold the following:

* Lunch and snacks
* School notebook
* Laptop or netbook
* Professional size DSLR
* Point-and-shoot camera, scientific calculator, wrist brace
* Miscellaneous pens, pencils, etc.
* Be comfortable for a 1 mile walk from my car to office, to and from classes during the day, and back again at night.
* Not be so gigantic as to be silly looking during the days where I don't take all of... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars My new favorite camera bag!, June 26, 2011

This review is from: Think Tank ~ Retrospective 30, Pinestone (Electronics)
In fact I like these so much I bought two - an R5 and R30. My "old" favorite was a Think Tank UD 40 used as my primary camera bag for a couple years, but I found continuously getting equipment in and out through the top zipper to be more difficult and tedious than I cared for. TT has now obviously solved this problem with the Retrospective line. And like all TT products, these bags just exude quality!

This R5 is perfect for a "day bag" holding my Canon 5DII with 24-105 and a 16-35, plus a couple filters, battery, etc, while the R30 is perfect for my "main bag" to hold all of my gear. Of course like any bag of this size it can start to get heavy if I pack all of my gear at once. But that's more of a personal problem with having too much stuff, rather than any fault of the bag itself!

All in all though the R30 is a perfect size for what I need it for, and looks great to boot! Up until now I had always preferred the black balistic nylon material, but I can now say I... Read more

This bag arrived today, another in a fairly long line of "looking for the right one."
It's large and roomy yet no too big, on the shoulder it is very comfortable with three heavy lenses, flash and pro DSLR body. As advertised it looks nothing like a camera bag ( but I guess if we all had one, the crooks would figure it out eventually!) I like the ability to throw the flap open and get to gear easily and yet it still feels secure enough.

Overall I'm very pleased so far, I may update this after carrying it around all day on a shoot, I suspect the news will be good.
